Specializations:
I specialize in working with adults with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and related disorders (body dysmorphic disorder, hair pulling, skin picking, hoarding disorder, vomit phobia/ emetophobia, olfactory reference syndrome, illness anxiety) as well as anxiety disorders (social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, phobias).
Therapy Services:
I use effective and well-researched approaches to treating the disorders in my areas of specialization. Specifically, I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure with response prevention (ERP), and I incorporate aspects of habit reversal training (HRT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and mindfulness techniques, when indicated. In order to create an effective and individualized treatment plan, I conduct a diagnostic assessment with all new therapy clients at the start of our work together. While I use evidence-based approaches, our therapy will very much be tailored to you: your symptoms, life circumstances, and goals for therapy.
Assessment services:
I also offer assessment services, separate from therapy. For example, if you are working with another therapist who does not specialize in OCD or related disorders, I am able to meet with you (usually over a couple of hours) in order to (a) determine whether you have OCD or a related disorder (e.g., body dysmorphic disorder, hair pulling, skin picking, etc.), (b) give input on where your OCD or related symptoms fit within your overall treatment priorities, and (c) provide recommendations for an effective treatment plan with your therapist, to address these symptoms. Assessment services consist of conducting a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation through interviews with you, speaking with your current therapist (with your written permission), and administration of well-validated assessment measures.
Consultation:
I am happy to provide consultation to other mental health providers who are working with clients with body dysmorphic disorder, body-focused repetitive behaviors, OCD, or related disorders and are seeking guidance on setting up a treatment plan or providing empirically-supported treatments for these conditions.
